Shoe Shine Planter

Flower planters placed around the yard are always fun, especially when they have a little character to them. We think this shoe shine planter does just that.

Here's what you'll need:

  • 8" X 3/4" X 8' cedar
  • Nails
  • Glue
Here's an exploded view of this project. Click on the picture for a bigger view.

Cut all the pieces as shown in the exploded view above.
Use you table saw miter to cut the angles for the sides.

Rabbet the bottom 3/8" in and 3/8" deep all the way around. It's better if you go a little heavy on the 3/8" in by a 32nd of an inch.
Cut a 3/8" X 3/8" groove 3/4" up from the bottom of the sides and ends. It's best if you make the groove a tiny bit deeper for expansion.

Make the shoe pattern any way you like. You can use an actual shoe for the pattern or just sketch one out.
Double back tape the two shoe pieces together and cut them at once on the band saw.
Separate the parts and cut the heal off of the top part.
Glue and nail all the pieces together.

That's it now throw some dirt and seeds in there and wait for spring.

We hope you've enjoyed this project and have good success with it. Remember, if you ever have any problems with our projects just drop us a line and we'll try to help. Since we build every one of these projects we have a pretty good idea of how to get through them. We also make lots of mistakes so we can help you avoid them.
